From AR to CA to AR - Part One
I'm home and getting back to normal again... well, normal for me which is not all that normal.
I'm talking Jamie Dawn normal which is somewhat abnormal for most folks.
I had a wonderful trip to CA, and I will share it with you because I like to spread good times around.
I haven't used the computer hardly at all for nearly three weeks! It's goooood to be back in Blogdom and see all your bright, happy faces again!!
On August 5th, I flew from Little Rock and arrived in Burbank where my brother Jason - the guy who for FAR TOO LONG thought Joan of Arc was Jonah Varc - was there to pick me up from the airport. We promptly made plans to dine somewhere scrumptious because that's what we do; we are serious eaters who enjoy the culinary pleasures of life. We thoroughly enjoyed tapas at a little Spanish restaurant.
On August 6th, our enjoyment of eating continued when we met up with blog buddy Doug at a Thai restaurant. I grabbed my camera first thing, and our waiter offered to snap a pic of all three of us. Our meal was divine, and the conversation was easy and interesting. So much so that we carried it on over to Jason's place and had some dessert to go with our talking. I've known Doug since my early days of blogging, and his blog is the only one I visit every day. He posts a word each day, and his blog buddies comment on the word. Easy, breezy, quick, fun. If you like words, you'll enjoy visiting Doug's place.
Late that night, Jason and I drove to blog buddy Naomi's house. She had invited us to see her incredible bloomers!!
Let me clarify...
She has these amazing flowers that bloom only ONE night per year, then they close up by morning and shrivel away.
We were thrilled to see Naomi's bloomers firsthand!!
Don't you EVEN try and sneak a peek at Naomi's bloomers without her permission because she has this:
These flowers are huge and delicate with many intricate details.
We were fortunate enough to come on a night when NINE of these were open! It was wondrous!!!
Here's a shot of the flowers without using flash, glowing in the light of the street lamp.
We saw Naomi's glorious garden by night from her lovely deck which is perched high above the garden:
The view is breathtaking:
Next post, I will tell about how we went back to Naomi's for lunch the following day, as the tales of my CA travels continue.
You can visit Naomi's blog and read about our visit by clicking here.
Starting this evening and over the next few days, I will visit all the blog buddies who left me a comment on my previous post, then maybe some who didn't. I've got a lot of reading & commenting to do. I look forward to catching up with you!

I read Naomi's post already and saw your lovely smiling faces! I'll be sure and never try and sneak to see Naomi's bloomers!! Haha!! Those flowers are amazing.
So glad you had a good visit and safe travel. Blogdom missed you!
Looking forward to the next part dear JD!
I don't like words, I like pichers. That's why I come here. I sure enjoyed visiting with you and Jason again. Big fun in a small restaurant.
I also saw Naomi's post and how lucky you were to see the cereus!! I look forward to your photos, JD!
How nice to have you back among us. Your trip sounds great...looking forward to more in future posts. Thanks for the visit.
Welcome home! You're right, those bloomers are wondrous. I bet even moreso in person. Looking forward to reading/seeing the rest of your trip.
Those flowers are really something. Did they smell wonderful too?
Glad you survived your visit to the golden state. Fun picture of Doug (I'm sure his tail was wagging).
I am glad that you clarified your level of normalcy as a level that is not normally classified as normal to those normally defined as normal.
Wow, it sure seems like you've been gone an awfully long time! I was starting to hyperventilate.
The flowers are beautiful. The view of the city is grand. And the three of you look like a really fun party. It is nice to see faces instead of feet.
bout time your get back..dang it woman...
I, too, love the pictures of the flowers and visited your friend's blog to look at the pictures of her garden, you and your brother. Sounds like a great trip with good food and good friends and family. It is nice to have you back. Thank you for the sweet comment about my grandson and I am so glad your family enjoyed the cake you made with my recipe.
What fun to see YOUR pictures of The Night "Bloomers"....lol! I LOVE the Double Entendre, my dear....! Also fun to see you picture of you and Jason and Doug...! Fun in Pasadena...!
I look forward to ALL the rest of the pictures, my dear....!
And thanks for sending me all of the ones you did....!
Jamie Dawn, I went over and read Naomi's post a couple of days ago and was jealous that you got to see the wonderous sight and I wasn't there. Actually, I'm excited that you were able to see it, what a treat.
It is nice that you get a chance to go over to California and visit with your brother and the rest of your family. I am looking forward to the "rest of the story....."
I'm glad you are back. I missed ya! I'm getting ready to go over to Naomi's and look at her bloomers there! It must have been an exciting trip. Can't wait to see more pictures. Clara
I just came from Naomi's! The pictures are great. Has anyone ever told you that you look like Samatha Brown on the travel channel? These pictures convinced me even more. You look exactly like her.....and I think, have the SAME personality from what I can gather. I love her!
Jamie DAWN!!!!
Come back home to ARKYSAW!!!!
oh, you did.
GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!
Callyforna ain't the place you need to be.
Hi Jamie Dawn,
Welcome back!! I know we will all enjoy your stories of your travels and your pictures!!
Speaking of which... Can you believe I have a couple of those Night blooming Cereus plants! YES!!!
A few nights ago I knew I would be having 2 blooms open that night....but, danged if I didn't forget to go out and look at them! :(
You can see the unopened blooms on one of my recent posts!
I also had them in Miami and I would wait up till late at night to see them. I have pictures from way back then. Maybe I can find some of them to post! Actually I was already thinking of doing that when I have another bloom...(I have at least one more coming on if the rain hasn't knocked it off)
I lost my original plant from Miami the first winter we were here, due to the cold weather. The one I have now is one I found up here - It doesn't seem to be exactly like the one I had before- not as big- but is definitely of the CEREUS family-pure white blooms that only live the one night that they open!
:0 sorry for such a long post!
Junie
I always like it when you get back home from your globe-trotting.
Many moons ago I posted a couple of photos of a night-bloomer of some kind. It sure was a pretty thing. Thanks for reminding me of it. And that reminds me: We are children of the Light--even at night.
Dougs zipper is down
Hi Jamie, welcome back. Thank you for checking on me, I appreciate that a lot. I'm glad you got to see Doug, he does good with those words.
I will wait for Part Two but it will be hard!
..
BTW, you don't have to check, but I update the Little Photo Place about three times a week lately. Mostly pictures with a few (that is hard for me) words. :-)
..
I saw your name on Judys blog and thought I would pop in. I was bowled over by your interesting blog. The beautiful flowers were an awesome sight. should you like to drop into mine my address is:

Once again thanks for interesting reading.
YVONNE.
Those flowers are amazing! I just read about them recently on Naomi's blog and once again after your visit. I loved the pics of you and your bro on her latest post. You all look like you're having the time of your lives...but then again, you always look like you're enjoying life!
I love words (doesn't every blogger?), so I will definitely pop into Doug's place for a visit. Thanks for the link! Great pic of the three of you, btw. Your brother's a cutie!!
Btw, after reading your comment on my blog...if you're ever in Miami, I'd love to take you belly dancing with me so you can show me how it's done! :)
Glad you are safe back in your own neck of the woods!
You had a very fun time!!
Bloomers? now there is a word you don't hear every day!
This, combined with what Naomi showed us, makes for a bunch of fine flowering flowers. And decks, etc.
Lovely trip you had, J.D.
What lovely bloomers! WElckme back.
JD ~ Welcome back! Sher and I just made it back from So. Cal too! The Mexican food story is a funny one given my post today! Nice that you got to see your brother too! ~ jb///
I think Naomi won't live down her
'bloomers' any time soon ;-)
Glad you had a good time.
Oobviously you had a wonderful trip and made some great memories. The night flowering plant has beautiful flowers. I got starts of one last year but it hasn't bloomed yet.
Good to see you are blooming well back Jamie.
So that is what Naomi's bloomers look like. I always wondered. :)
Wow Namoi's bloomers are beautiful - did they smell good, too? How fortunate you were able to be there to see them. I'm going to go visit Doug's place ASAP - I love words.
And welcome back! I missed you!
I'm afraid to go over to see her version of your visit. The DNC is going on and I just can't take the bs.
Your pics are sensational as always.
I'm so glad to see you back, altho it looks as tho you had a lovely time! The photos are great...but welcome home!
hugs
Sandi
How do you think Cliff cleans the rotten tomatoes off his TV screen? Thanx for the travel tales and pics; what spectacular view.
Beautiful bloomers indeed. Welcome back
excellent post - the first time I'm here I want you all the best!
steven
I have worked up a pretty good case of jealousy that you are getting to hang out with Blog Buds in the REAL world. I know that EVENTUALLY I will get to meet some of the fine folks that I have built friendships with... I can't hardly wait!
The bloomers were fascinating.
